We gathered some information about sources of business capital and finance for Gambian small businesses and startups.

1. Gambia National Business Plan Competition

The programme is initiated and promoted by The Gambia Investment and Export Promotion Agency (GIEPA); the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration and Employment (MOTIE); The Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) and The Gambia Growth and Competitiveness Project (GGCP). In 2015 D1,750,000.00 was given to 3 winners. You may contact GCCI for some details.

2. Tony Elumelu Foundation Entrepreneurship Programme; TEEP

Based in Nigeria for all African Startups.

I. Initial seed capital funding of $5,000 – a non-returnable investment

II. Second stage capital investment of $5,000 – for qualifying start-ups that have progressed with their business plans sufficiently (structured as a low interest loan or equity).

III. Mentoring and Training of all selected applicants

 3. Savannah Fund

Savannah Fund is a seed capital fund specializing in US$25,000-US$500,000 investments in early stage high growth technology startups in sub-Saharan Africa.

4. eVA Fund

eVA Fund is dedicated to mobilize capital and experience in the Netherlands/Europe to invest in small and medium sized African internet related companies. eVA Fund focusses on development in terms of capital and business development support, i.e. knowledge, experience, access to proven business concepts/applications, and network. The target region is sub-Saharan Africa.

5. Africa Media Ventures Fund

AMVF mobilizes capital and experience in the Netherlands to invest in entrepreneurs in the media sector and small and medium sized African media companies. They offer a combination of venture capital and business development support, involving knowledge, experience, access to proven business concepts and network. Capital investment ranges from $ 20,000 to $ 200,000.  They focus on sub-Saharan Africa (SA excepted), and are currently most active in Kenya and Ghana.
